The remake was entitled Leisure Suit Larry 1: In the Land of the Lounge Lizards and used Sierra’s Creative Interpreter (SCI) engine providing 256 colors and a point and click icon-based user interface opposed to the original’s text-base user interface. The success of Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards resulted in a 1991 remake released for the PC. The first month sales of the game were lower than any new Sierra launch, however word of mouth spread quickly and by years end the game became a commercial success selling over 250,000 copies. This was due to the fact that many stores would not stock the game because of its adult content and Sierra’s lack of advertisement due to the controversial nature of the game. Upon release sales were extremely poor with only 4,000 copies sold.

A series of questions would be asked and if players were able to answer the questions correctly, they would be allowed into the game and if not, the game would not load. On his quest Larry encounters four women in which he tries to get involved with. The game begins with Larry outside of a bar in Lost Wages with only $94 available to complete his quest. Larry travels to the city of Lost Wages with the goal to find the woman of his dreams. The game is centered around a 38-year old man named Larry Laffer who still lives in his mother’s basement and has yet to lose his virginity. The game utilizes the Adventure Game Interpreter (AGI) engine made famous by King’s Quest: Quest for the Crown. It is the first installment in the Leisure Suit Larry series and was inspired by Chuck Benton’s text-based adventure game Softporn Adventure. Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards is an adventure video game developed and published by Sierra On-Line in 1987 for MS-DOS and Apple based computers.
